About the Foundation

MISSION & OBJECTIVE

The mission of the Centennial Infant and Child Centre Foundation is to support the education, development and rehabilitation of children with intellectual and developmental challenges to enable each child to reach his or her full potential.

The Centennial Infant and Child Centre Foundation’s objectives are to support the philosophy of the Centennial Infant and Child Centre.

BACKGROUND

The Centennial Infant and Child Centre Foundation was established in 1995.

Through its "Cherish the Children" Campaign, the Foundation raised funds to purchase its building at 1580 Yonge Street, where the Centre--and its Preschool Program--are located. In 2002, the Foundation saw the completion of a project to construct an outside, enclosed lift to make the building fully wheelchair accessible.

Although the Centre receives some government funding, and some fees for service, for programs and special projects, these funds are not enough to allow Centennial to be able to undertake all that is required to help the children get off to the best start they can. Centennial needs additional funding for the ongoing operations of both its Preschool and its Infant Development programs.

In order to assist the Centre with operating expenses, and to help to furnish and equip the premises, the Foundation raises funds through corporations, other charitable foundations and an annual campaign, and receives wonderful support and generous donations from "Friends of Centennial."

CICC PHILOSOPHY

  • We believe that all children have the right to develop a sense of self worth and to become as independent as possible. We believe that each child and parent is unique.
  • We believe that all children deserve the opportunity to learn through play, socialization and positive environmental experiences.
  • We work directly with families to lend emotional support and to encourage the optimal development of each child. This is an ongoing process in which the staff and the family learn from each other.
