Children who graduate from Centennial do so prepared to the best of their ability to step into their next school experience. Some children enter into the school system and go into an integrated kindergarten classroom, a developmental class, or a classroom in a segregated school who will meet their physical therapy needs. Other children complete their kindergarten years in a Montessori program or private school.
Whatever direction families chose to take it is vitally important that they do so in an informed way and prepare themselves to act as advocates for their child.
Knowledge is power. Find out what ISA funding is, what the IPRC process is all about, what an IEP is and when you can expect one for your child. Familiarize yourself with the Education Act, Bill 82, legislation and your rights under it.
The Toronto District School Board has a website that can be used by parents to educate themselves on the procedures, terminology, special education services, committees and associations that are a part of the education system.
